Element creatives join 64 Million Artists’ annual #JanuaryChallenge
64 Million Artists
Last week, Element’s fortnightly youth drop-in was co-hosted by 64 Million Artists, a social enterprise that aims to bring out the innate creativity of individuals and communities across the UK through arts-based projects. The session marked the 27th day of the organisation’s annual January Challenge, a unique initiative asking participants to engage with a new creative activity each day of the month.
Drawing
Our challenge began with a warm up activity drawing blind portraits (yes, that’s drawing someone else - without looking at what you’re doing!) If this wasn’t challenging enough, next up we had an activity called ‘Playing With Paint’, which asked that we make a painting with anything we can find, except for paint brushes, of course.
The idea was created by former inmate Sean Donoher, who now runs the Brighton-based charity Makingitout, which offers arts-based activities to those at-risk and in need of some structured support in their lives. Sean highlights how the experience of playing with paint can connect us to our inner artist, or even childhood.
Element young creatives were quick to begin building up some beautiful compositions, demonstrating all kinds of interesting ways of putting paint to paper, including sponges, sticks, fingers and more! Have a look at the selection of works from the session, and see if you can guess which tools were used.
